Adventurer

Person who engages in risk taking.

Our Adventurers Class is our youngest group of children, ages 18 months -4 years. The class name is perfect for this age range, as it is a time of trial and error, exploration, and risk taking. Children change dramatically during this 2.5 year span from infant to child. The experiences your child has during this period will set the foundation for future learning.

Goals

We have set forth a number of goals that help us in designing the curriculum. These goals are not intended to cover everything that a child will learn or develop in over these 2.5 years. These goals along with our quarterly reports, are used in deciding when a child is ready for the Explorers class.

The Whole Child

The goal of nurturing the whole child is a little different in each age group. Preschool is a time for divergent thinking, exploration, self expression, and fun. Children, especially toddlers, live life out loud! At this age, nurturing the whole child means embracing their raw emotions, curiosity, boundary testing, and independence. It takes the right mix of teacher, curriculum, and environment to create successful learning experiences with a group of toddlers. We adapt our curriculum to help support toddlers to become secure, independent, and confident. One of the main ways we do this is through productive use of play time. You will notice there is more Freeplay time built into the Adventurers schedule. This is done purposefully to adapt to the Adventurers need to be independent. This time is utilized for the teacher to observation and coaching.

The Schedule

Any parent of a toddler can tell you, the only thing that stays the same is that nothing stays the same. Our schedule embraces this truth, by being flexible to the needs of the children on any given day. There are times where it is impossible to get through every activity that is planned. Toddlers in a group, react strongly to each others emotion and attitude. It takes a skilled teacher to adapt activities with the tone of the class, while still achieving the learning objective. We facilitate this, by having blocks of time set aside for activities. The activity blocks are padded with extra time for distractions and to ensure smooth transitions. Each of our daycare rooms are multi-functional, so the activity can be changed as needed. Below is an example of a daily schedule of the Adventurers:
